Drayer Ink, LLC

That’s right, we are officially official! Both Drayer Ink and Copper Catkin are officially incorporated as Oregon businesses!

The process to set up a business in Portland requires several steps, as I currently understand it.

  • First, we file our LLC application, and create Articles of Organisation which outline the structure of each business.
  • Then, we need a legal agreement between us as owners of Drayer Ink, and between Drayer Ink and Copper Catkin.
  • Once we have all that paperwork done, we also need to register each business in Portland, and get an IRS Employer Identification Number (EIN) for each business, too, even though we don’t plan to employ anyone in the near future.

Once we are set up, I need to start pulling together the art for each of the games to get copyrighted under Copper Catkin. We are going to make an art book for each game, so we don’t have to copyright every individual illustration – each filing costs almost $1,000 in fees and legal costs, so putting them all together into a book makes a lot more sense!

We are almost at the end of the RAIN Moneymakers’ course, and we had our first class for the SBDC Business Plan Accelerator yesterday. Interestingly, both courses want us to come up with a pitch for our businesses, so stay tuned for that!
